Meet the Staff
Eight attorneys and ten paralegals and legal assistants make up the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin’s workers’ compensation department, which has represented thousands of injured clients. These dedicated employees understand workers’ compensation laws and the complex aspects of a workers’ compensation case.
The workers’ compensation staff is composed of members who are bilingual, who have more than 10 years of workers’ compensation and/or civil litigation experience and who formerly worked at the North Carolina Industrial Commission. One is a licensed insurance adjuster.

The following are all members of the workers’ compensation team:
Kari Beneck
Legal Assistant
Kari Beneck has been with the firm since January 2010. She brings to her present position more than 12 years of experience as a legal secretary, legal assistant and paralegal. The majority of her experience is in the areas of personal injury and Workers’ Compensation. She has both an associate degree in paralegal studies and a certificate as a legal secretary.
Nancy Blanton
Legal Assistant
Nancy Blanton has been with the firm since the spring of 2002. She had over nine years of experience with the North Carolina Industrial Commission before joining the worker’s compensation team. Presently she assists the lawyers of our workers’ compensation team in preparing cases for mediation, litigation, and settlement.
Kathy Coleman
Senior Paralegal
Kathy Coleman has been with the firm since 2002. She has worked as a paralegal for 14 years. Ms. Coleman works in our Durham office in the workers’ compensation department and works closely with our clients and workers’ compensation attorneys to manage sometimes complex case mediation, litigation and settlements.
Pam Chastain
Paralegal
Pam Chastain has been with the firm since 2002. She has worked as a paralegal for seven years and now works in the Durham office as part of the workers’ compensation team, where she assists clients with workers’ compensation case mediation, litigation and settlements.
Danyna Ferrell
Paralegal
Dayna Ferrell has been with the firm since 2009. She brings to her present position more than 10 years of experience as a paralegal and an associates degree in paralegal studies. She works closely with both clients and attorneys to facilitate and manage often complex Workers’ Compensation cases.
Cherie Hatton
Paralegal (Bilingual)
Originally from Miami, Cherie Hatton moved to the Raleigh area in 2003 and joined the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin in the summer of 2006. Fluent in Spanish, Ms. Hatton has over 15 years of legal experience and most recently worked for insurance companies and with defense firms in the areas of litigation and workers’ compensation.
Lisa Milam
Case Manager
Lisa Milam has been with the firm since 2009. As an NC Bar Association Certified Paralegal, she brings to her brings to her present position more than 15 years of experience in the legal field. Ms. Milam also brings more than 10 years experience as a multi-jurisdictional Workers’ Compensation claims adjuster expereienced in managing large complex cases. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree from Meredith College in Polticial Science.
Kenya Reynard
Case Manager (Bilingual)
Kenya Reynard is originally from Florida and moved to North Carolina in 2002. She works as a Case Manager at James Scott Farrin and is pleased to assist our Spanish-speaking clients with their sometimes complex workers’ compensation concerns. She also assists as an intake specialist and Spanish translator. Before joining our firm she employed her considerable customer service skills as a sales manager for a major retail organization and in debt management.
Roberta Vance
Paralegal
Roberta Vance joined the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin in December 2006. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Vance worked at an insurance defense firm in Raleigh for nearly seven years. Before her law firm experience, she also worked for almost six years at the North Carolina Industrial Commission.
Eddie Vivero
Legal Assistant (Trilingual - English, Spanish, Portuguese)
Eddie Vivero has been with the firm since 2007. He has successfully managed more than 100 personal injury cases - in Spanish, English and Portuguese - with excellent client satisfaction rates. He is also the main translator for the Workers’ Compensation Department, including mediations, phone conferences, client meetings and occasional court appearances. His previous experience includes working for governmental agencies and as a corporate trainer for a managed mental health care organization.
