Rick Fleming

Mr. Fleming has been working with people trying to get ahead for many years, in many different ways. He began as an educator, teaching second and sixth grade at the Colegio Americano in Guatemala City. Mr. Fleming also taught Creative Writing and English as a Second Language at Kalamazoo College, and Spanish at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Later, Mr. Fleming moved into academic administration, running study abroad programs all around the world that allowed students the opportunity to experience other cultures in the course of their education. In that field Mr. Fleming worked first as an advisor, and later as a director charged with oversight of finance and operations of several international programs, including program development, fundraising, and responsibility for offshore properties and accounts.

Working with students who were outside of their environment presented unique challenges, especially during those times when they were involved in legal conflicts or when they were injured or became sick while overseas. Many times they did not have health insurance that would work in other countries, or involved extremely complicated reimbursement and cost conversion procedures. Mr. Fleming soon began working on this issue with a group of attorneys and risk managers from all sixteen campuses of the University of North Carolina, and together with the NC Department of Insurance, created an insurance plan for faculty, staff, and students of all UNC campuses who travel overseas for work or education purposes. This experience led Mr. Fleming to an interest in the law and how it can be used to help individuals through challenging times.

This then led into the practice of law, where Mr. Fleming’s practice focuses on those who have been injured at work or suffered catastrophic physical and economic loss. Mr. Fleming has helped many injured workers in their workers’ compensation insurance claims as well as assisted them with Social Security disability claims in the case of severe and incapacitating disabilities.

Mr. Fleming speaks Spanish and has been fortunate to work with many injured people in the Latino community. Mr. Fleming has discussed legal topics at Hispanic events and also on radio programs. The Law Offices of James Scott Farrin is unique in that we have a large staff of Spanish-speaking attorneys, case managers, and paralegals available to speak with our friends and neighbors in the Latino community who need legal assistance.

If you have been injured at work, or in an accident of any kind, we encourage you to speak with an attorney about your rights and those benefits to which you may be entitled, including workers’ compensation, Social Security Disability, and any vested benefits through your employer. We are interested in assisting you through challenging times, and providing you the information you need to make well-informed decisions about your personal injury case.
